The Greens at Pier 17

It’s summer time in NYC and us New Yorkers know it’s rooftop season. There’s a plethora of options in Manhattan to have a cocktail under the world’s most famous skyline. The Greens is the perfect place to chill out and escape the summer heat in style. It’s laid back vibes, stellar views of NYC and good food without feeling like you are in a huge crowd. The Greens is conveniently located at Pier 17 along the South Street Seaport. When you arrive at the pier and walk towards the large red boat in the water, the second building on the left is where you need to go. From here you will see signs to take the escalator to the top.

I went to have lunch at The Greens and was really impressed with the unique setup. The mini lawns have comfortable picnic chairs, a table, a trash can and you get a buzzer to call your server when needed. The setup is perfect for social distancing and additionally you have a large umbrella over you to avoid the sun.

Mini lawns seat up to eight people and must be reserved online. Reserve yours here. To be considerate of other guests, mini lawns are only reserved for a 90 minute time limit. Note: there is a small fee to reserve a mini lawn which depends on the day and time of your reservation. If you do not have a reservation there are two large patio areas that are first come first serve. Either way you will have amazing views of the city. On Fridays and Saturdays, there is a DJ playing all of your favorite jams. Be sure to check the website to see if there are any special events happening.

Ordering your food at The Greens is as simple as pressing a few buttons on your phone. There is no need to call your server unless you want to. I was able to scan the QR code on my phone which pulled up the menu. From here I chose what I wanted and paid using my credit card straight from my phone. This made it much faster and easier as opposed to waiting for a server to check on your mini lawn.

The menu consists of drinks that are either frozen or on the rocks. My personal favorite is the Summer Crush. There are a good amount of food options that are actually filling. Popular items are the lobster roll, fried chicken sandwich and grilled cheese. Me and my best friend came here for a lunch reservation and we were not disappointed. For dessert we finished with the smores which ware delicious.

Since visiting the Greens for lunch, I went back to visit three separate times on my own and enjoyed myself each time. This will officially be my ‘go to’ spot for the rest of summer and beyond.

I was welcomed as a guest of The Greens but all words, opinions and photography are my own.
